1557 will of John Ledbrooke husbandman of Fenny Compton

In the name of god Amen the xxiijth day of June in the yeare of our lorde god. 1557. I John lad[broke] of the paryshe of Fennycompton in the countye of Warwyck husbandman havyng my body weake and sycke and yet neverthelesse beyng of a whole & sounde mynde and well advysed with good remembrance do make thys my last wyll and testament in Forme and manner as hereafter folowythe. Fyrst I commend & bequeathe my sowle into the mercyfull hands of allmyghteye god. And I wyll my body for to be buryed in the parysh church yarde of Fennycompton aforesayd Item I bequeathe unto the mother churche of Coventrie & Lycheffeelde ij d Item I bequeathe to the hygheawllre in the churche of Fennycompton aforesayd and to the mayntenannce of ornaments in the channsell there partaynyng to the use of gods servyrs viijd. Item I gyve towards the repayryng & mayntenannce in the sayd churche of Fennycompton of the hell iiijd. Item I gyve towards the mayntenannce of the lyghtes in the same churche iiijd. Item I bequeathe unto my dawghter Agnes a Cowe & ij cowples of Sheepe and iiij other sheepe. Item I bequeathe unto my dawghter Dorothye my younge heiffers & ij cowples of cheepe and iiij other sheepe. Item I bequeathe unto my dowghter Jone my Colte whiche ys now already a yeare olde and more and viij cowples of sheepe. Item I gyve and bequeathe unto my dowghter Alyce a colte which was the sole of myne awmeblyng mare and viij cowples of sheepe. Item I bequeathe all my wyffes apparell & wearyng Rayment unto my fowre dowghters Agnes Dorothye Jone and Alyce. and I do wyll the same for to be equally and indifferently distrybutyd & partyd amongst them withe the advyse and discrecion of myne overseare of thys my wyll and testament. Moreover I wyll that all my inwarde moveable householdestuf shall be partyd and dyvyded withe egall porcyons amongst all my fyve chylldren Robert Agnes Dorothy Jone & Alyce. by the discrecion helpe & advyse of my trusty and welbelovyd Frynds Thomas Gryffyn and thomas pettyfer whom I do especyally put in trust and also desyre them for to be faythfull oversears of thys my last wyll & testament that yt may with theyr assystence and helpe be accordyngly and with all quyetness perfourmyd. Also I wyll that my best brasse pot & my best brasse pan shall be exceptyd in the partyng of the movables and reservyd unto my sonne Robert onely besydes hys parte in the rest of thes inwarde movables. Item I wyll that all these goods whiche I have gyven and bequeathyd unto my dowghters Agnes & Dorothy in thys my wyll and testament shalbe delyveryd unto them shortly after my deceasse and buryall whansoever they do requyre the same. Fynally I do ordayne make & appoynte my sonne robert myne onely lawffull executor of thys my last wyll & testame[n]t and I gyve and bequeathe unto hym the resydew of all my goodes bothe movable & unmovble not otherwyse namely afore bequeathyd and gyven in thys my wyll. Wherby my sayd sonne Robert shall be chargyd for to pay truly all and syngular my debts that I do owe / And also for to performe faythefully all manner legacies in thys my testament specyfyed / and for to bryng my body honestly & withe dew reverence unto christen buryall. Also I wyll that my sayd sonne Robert shall have my two younger dowghters Jone and Alyce inhys governance & kepyng with the porcyons of of [sic] goodes whiche I have bequeathyd unto them untyll they shall lyve for to be of the age of xvij yeares. And if my sayd dowghters Jone or Alyce do fortune to dye before that they shall be of the age of xviij yeares than I wyll that the porcyon of goodes bequeathyd to my sayd dowghters or eyther of them so deceassyng shall remayne amongst all my other chylldren than beyng alyve.
