This relationship is given by Herbert (p. 163). It is corroborated by the fact that Mary and Thomas’s daughter’s Rosa’s son, John Salter, referred in his 1532 will to his kinsman, John Corbet of Leigh.

Evidence


Herbert (p. 163) states that Thomas was living 6 Henry VI. (1427), but she does not say what evidence this is based on. Thereafter, it is difficult to distinguish him from his son, also named Thomas, in the records.

Thomas Mitton and --- ygld bailiffs of Salop grant at fee farm to Thomas Sugdon of Salop two messuages or ruined tenements formerly in tenure of Thomas Cludde, heir of William Cludde --: the tenement extends in length from the gate of the (friars) preachers --- called le Waterlode which leads towards the Severn and in --- from the high way to the walls of the town, to hold for ever paying the bailiffs and their successors 2s p.a. at St Peter ad Vincula, Re-entry into the two messuages to distrain if the rent is one month in arrears and repossession if no distress. Warranty by Thomas and Roger.
