A transcription of the will of Benjamin Bach

In the Name of God, Amen I Benjamin Bach of New Town in the parish of Bromsgrove in the County of Worcester Gentleman being of sensible and disposing Mind and Memory (thanks be to Almighty God) do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) I Give and devise to my Grand son William Bach of Birmingham Painter all that my Messuage and Lands situate at the Gannow in the Parish of Bromsgrove aforesaid with the Appurtenances late in the holding of Edward Brettell and now of Leonard James at the yearly rent of Fourteen Pounds To hold to my said Grandson and the Heirs of his Body lawfully to be begotten, and for default of such Issue I give and devise the said Estate and premises, to his four sisters my Granddaughters hereinafter named and their Heirs forever equally to be divided between them as Tenants in Common not as Joint Tenants I Give and bequeath the sum of twelve hundred pounds (for which I have sold my Estate at New Town to Mr Edward Tongue) to my four Granddaughters namely Sarah wife of Thomas Penn, Phebe wife of James Jesson, Mary wife of Abraham Millington, and Lydia Bach Spinster to be equally divided between them and payable to them with Interest at the rate of four Centum per annum from my Decease and for the payment of which Legacies, I charge all my Personal Estate and Effects and subject thereto I give to my said Granddaughter Sarah Penn the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds secured by two several Bonds in my Possession the one for one hundred and fifty pounds and dated the third day of May one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine and the other for one hundred Pounds and dated the thirtieth day of November one thousand and seven hundred and seventy nine and in case the said Bonds or either of them shall be paid off in my life time it is my will that the said sum of two hundred and fifty pounds shall be paid back and made good to my said Granddaughter Sarah Penn all my Household Goods Plate Linnen and Furniture and all the rent and residue of my Personal Estate (subject to my just Debts Legacies and Funeral Expences) I Give to my said four Granddaughters to be equally divided between them I nominate and appoint my said Granddaughter Sarah Penn and her Husband Thomas Penn Executors to this my Will hereby revoking all former will and wills by me made I publish and declare this to be my only true last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have to this my Will set my Hand and Seal and published the same the Eighth day of December seven hundred and eighty eight, (Benjamin Bach)
