Commentary
James’s parentage:
In his 1708 will, James Naylor the elder of Ashton in Makerfield names his son James Naylor and his grandchildren Ellen, John, Jonathan, James, Joseph, and Ellen. The grandchildren are the children of the James Naylor of this page (Their baptism records give their father as James.) Thus it is clear that James Naylor the elder was the father of the James Naylor of this page.
The eldest child of James Naylor the elder was baptized in Winwick 9 December 1666. The Winwick register records the marriage 20 June 1666 of James Naylor and Ann Barrow. The wooing by James Naylor (the elder) of Ann Barrow is recorded in the diary of Roger Lowe.
