Edward is named in the 1592 will of his father. He had two younger siblings.


Date of Burial: 1 February November 1660/1.

Place of Burial: Newton chapel, Manchester.

The burial is recorded in the register. He is described in the register as of Scotland in Newton. Edward made his will 30 November 1660. It was proved in 1661.

The marriage is recorded in the register. Edward’s wife Marie is named in the 1640 will of Edward’s brother Robert. Edward names Holland kinsmen in his will, whom I assume are his in-laws.

Edward Wroe (baptized 6 December 1628 in Manchester - buried 21 June 1712 in Manchester) married Elizabeth.

Edward’s 1661 will:


In the name of God Amen The thirtieth day of Nouember Anno Dom. 1660. I Edward Wroe of Newton in the Parish of Manchester and County of Lancast.r yeoman beeing sicke and weake in body but of good and perfect memory blessed bee God theerfore Doe make publish and declare this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following, First I bequeath my soule into the hands of God my Creatour hopeing through the merits of Jesus Christ my Sauieur and Redeemer to bee made partaker of life euerlasting, and my body to Christian buriall at the discretion of my Executor herein hereafter expressed and mentioned. And as touching and concerninge that Estate which God in his greate mercy hath beene pleased to blesse and indue mee withaall wheather reall or personall; my will and mind is that first of all all my debts and funerall expences shall bee satisfyed payd and discharged out of the same And towards all such Legacyes as are herein hereafter menconed to bee by mee giuen and bequeathed shall likewise bee discharged out of the residue thereof. Also I doe give and bequeath all my right Title interest and propriety that I haue in that part and parcel of Land purchased by mee from Robert Burdett Esquire commonly called and knowne by the name of Bowkers Tenement scituate and lying in Newton unto my Grandchild Edward Wroe from and after the time that hee shall attaine to the age of Twelue yeares, and from and immediately after my decease untill hee shall attaine the said age of twelue yeares it is my mind and will that my sonne Edward Wroe his father shall injoy and reape the profitts hereof, and if it happen that the said Edward Wroe my Grandchild shall dye before hee hath attained the age of one and twenty yeares then my will and mind is that the foresd. Land shall fall and belong unto my other grandchild James Wroe. Also I giue and bequeath unto my said Grandchild Edward Wroe the soḿe of Ten pounds of good and lawfull money of England Itm unto my grandchild Mary Wroe sister unto the said Edward the soḿe of Ten pounds, Itm to my Grandchild James Wroe the soḿe of Ten pounds. Item unto my daughter in law Elizabeth Wroe the soḿe of Ten pounds. Item I giue and bequeath unto my Sonne in law Thomas Heape his children as followeth. Imprimis to his sonne Richard Heape the some of Ten pounds, To his sonne Edward Heape Ten pounds, To his sonne Thomas Heape Ten pounds, and unto Mary Heape his daughter the some of Thirty pounds, and unto Alice Heape his youngest child now liueing the soḿe of Ten pounds. Alwaies prouided and neuerthelesse it is my mind and will that if any of the said Children of the aboue named Thomas Heape shall depart this life before that they shall attaine unto the age of one and twenty yeares that then the said seuerall soḿes of money so bequeathed shall from that time forth properly fall and appertaine unto my Executor herein hereafter menconed, Item I giue unto the foure Children of my late sonne John Wroe to witt John, Mary, Jane and Anna the soḿe of Forty shillings a peece in case they shall liue till they haue seuerally attained unto the age of one and twenty yeares, and if they or any of them doe not so long liue my will and mind is that the aboue menconed sonnes particularly shall fall and properly belong unto my Executo.r as abouesaid. Item unto my daughter in law Mary late wife to my sonne John Wroe I giue and bequeath the soḿe of Fiue shillinges. Item to my sonne in law Thomas Heape I giue fiue shillinges, [ in leiw and full satisfaccon of Both their childs parts or filiall porcons ], Item I leaue with my Executo.r the soḿe of Thirty pounds to bee disposed of and laid out monthly, or otherwise at the discretion of my hereafter menconed Executo.r for the use of my daughter Margarett Heape and the Education of her Children till the said Thirty pounds bee fully and intirely paid (the said Thomas Heape not haueing anything at all to doe or meddle with any part of the said Thirty pounds.) Item I giue and bequeath unto my sister Katherine Hilton the soḿe of Three pounds to bee paid unto her by eighteene pence ꝑ weeke till the same bee fully run up and paid if shee so long shall happen to liue. Item unto James Hough my seruant I giue and bequeath the soḿe of Twenty shillings. Item to George Towneley my seruant Tenne shillings, Item to Edward Rycroft two shillings sixe pence. Item to John Stocke Twelue pence, and unto Thomas Chatterton twelue pence, Item to Anna Fletcher Fiue shillinges, Item to Sarah Fletcher Fiue shillinges, Item unto my very good Friend and Pastor M.r John Walker the soḿe of Forty shillinges if hee doe preach my Funerall sermon, and if hee doe not then my mind and will is that hee haue onely the some of twenty shillinges. Item unto my wellbeloued Kinsman M.r Thomas Holland I giue and bequeath the soḿe of twenty shillinges, Item to my Couzin George Holland of Newton I giue the some of Ten shillings. And as touching and concerning all the rest residue and remainder of my estate I doe fully and wholly giue and bequeath the same unto my sonne Edward Wroe whom I doe hereby constitute & ordaine to bee sole Executo.r of this my last Will and Testament hopeing that hee will faithfully discharge the trust heerin by mee in him reposed. In witnesse wheerof I the said Edward Wroe haue hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare abouewritten./
