Maud, daughter of Roger Bigod

Events

Date of Birth: unknown.

Place of Birth: unknown.

Date of Death: between 1121 and 1133.

Place of Death: unknown.

Apparently some sources, which I haven’t checked, give 1129 as the date. Keats-Rohan (2002 p. 174) states that she "predeceased her husband in the period 1121-33."

Relationships

Father: Roger Bigod (died 1107).

This relationship is given by Mason (ODNB), by Keats-Rohan (2002, p. 174), by Wareham (p. 231), and by the Complete Peerage (1:233, 9:578 c).

(probable) Mother: Alice de Tosny.

This relationship is given by Keats-Rohan (2002 p. 174) and by the Complete Peerage (9:578 c). In the CP, Geoffrey White argues that, although Maud didn’t share in the Belvoir inheritance, which one would expect if she was a daughter of Alice, the fact that Alice was present at her funeral suggests that she was Maud’s mother. In Dugdale (3:331, sub Monastery of Wymondham), which White cites to support this, she is described as “Adeliz. Bigot mater ejusdem defunctæ”. Also supporting this view, White argues, is that Maud’s marriage did not take place until after Roger’s death. Wareham (p. 231) argues that Maud was the daughter of a previous marriage of Roger. Keats-Rohan (1999, p. 396) states that "it is fairly clear" that Roger was married only once, to Adelisa de Tosny.

Spouse: William d’Aubigny (died 1139).

This relationship is given by Mason (ODNB), by Keats-Rohan (2002, p. 174), by Wareham (p. 231), and by the Complete Peerage (1:233).
