Plaintiff: Sampson Meverell esquire, tithe farmer of the rectory of Uttoxeter

Defendant: John Wootton of Uttoxeter

Witnesses: William Stephenson, age 44 and John Colleir, age 28, both of Froddeswell [Fradswell] and servants of Meverell (they wear his livery and are his tenants). Colleir is described as Meverell's tithe gatherer. Further witnesses: Richard Gamble of Uttoxeter, age 41; John Buckland of Uttoxeter, age 30

In the name of God Amen I Richard Gamble of Loxley in the p[ar]ishe of Uttoxator & countie of Staffs webster being sicke in body but of good and p[er]fecte memory praisd be geven unto allmighty god Institute ordayne and make this my Last will and testament in maner and forme folowyng first I geve & bequeathe my soule in to the hands of Allmightie god my maker and redimer throwow whos p[re]tious blud sheding I trust to be saved, allso I bequeathe my bodie to the earthe and to be buryed in the marcheyarde of Uttoxater neare unto the place wheare my wiffe was buryed, Item I geve and bequeathe unto my doughter Alice Gamble one materis one bulster and coverlett one payre of Shetes to be taken at her owne choyse Item I bequeathe to the said Alice i peuter dishe & ij Coffers to be taken at her owne choyse allso, Item I geve & bequeathe unto my Sonne George Gamble towe of my best shipe Item it is my will and minde that my sonne and heire John Gamble shall paye unto my doughter Alice Gamble ten Pounds within ij yearis next after my dissease & shall allso paye unto my sonne George gamble vj li xiij s iiij d within the towe said next yearis after my disease, allwaies p[ro]vided that if my sonne John gamble do chance to mary within the towe said years next after my diseace in with the vj li xiij s iiij d ought to be paid it is then my will & mynde that the said John gamble shall paye unto his brother George gamble the said sume of vj li xiij s iiij d withe in six wickes then next after his mariage, Item I brought have my dets paid and my bone said Legacies p[er]formed all the rest of my goods and Lands I geve and bequeath unto my sonne John Gamble p[ro]vided allwaies that if it the said John gamble do not p[]er]forme & paye unto his said sister Alice Gamble all her Legacies in maner and forme as is abovesaid  then it is my will and mynde & I do Fuely geve unto my doughter Alice gamble the use and occupation of one close or pasture called the newe close in kirsinshe to have and to hold unto the said Alice and her assignes from the daye in with the said sumes of x li ought to be paid untill the said Summe of x li and legacies be all discharged & paid, Item for wante of payment of vj li xiij s iiij d to be paid in maner and forme as is above bequeathed unto my sonne George gamble I do frely geve and bequeathe unto my said sonne george the use and occupatio of one close or pasture called The Browy Flate to have and to hold the said close or pasture called the Bromy Flatt unto the said george Gamble and his assignes untill the said sume of xj li xiij s iiij d be all discharged and paid Item to the intent and porpose that this my Last will and testament maye be trewly p[er]formed I institute ordayne & make my sonne John Gamble my full and Lawfull executor of this my Last will & testament allso I desire & praye John Lyon of Loxley and Willm Norman of Cavswall to be overseres of the same
