Commentary
William’s parentage
The 1700 will of Francis Morrell of Kingston near Chesterton mentions his brothers in law Joseph Ledbrook and William Ledbrook.
The 1702 will of Nathaniel Ledbrook of Kingston near Chesterton mentions his brother Joseph Ledbrook, and a witness was William Ledbrook. Nathaniel was buried in Burton Dassett.
Thus, we are dealing here with three brothers, Nathaniel, Joseph, and William Ledbrook. The Burton Dassett register records the birth of Nathaniel Ledbrooke in 1655, and no other plausible births or baptisms appear in indexes. The birth entry records that Nathaniel’s father was also named Nathaniel. A Joseph Ledbrooke, the son of Nathaniel and Dorothy, was baptized in Burton Dassett in 1669. The baptism of a William, son of Nathaniel Ledbrooke does not appear. However, we know that there was such a son, since in a 1694 deed, Nathaniel Ledbrook gave all his property to his son William Ledbrook of Northend.
There is further evidence that Nathaniel and Dorothy were the parents of the three brothers in question: the brother Nathaniel was of Kingston, and the Burton Dassett register records the burial in 1718 of Dorothy Ledbrook, widow of Kingston.
Furthermore, William Ledbrook of Northend (the William of this page) named one of his daughters Dorothy.
Taken together, it appears clear that the William Ledbrooke of this page was the son of Nathaniel Ledbrooke and his wife Dorothy. There seem to have been no other Nathaniels or Dorothys in the neighbourhood with which the elder Nathaniel and Dorothy above could be confused, and the connections to Joseph and the hamlet of Kingston provide further corroboration of the relationship.
