John’s will:


In the name of God Amen I John Darby the elder of the parishe of Kingswinford and County of Stafford yeoman being weake of body but of sound & perfect memory praised bee God for the same doe make my last Will and Testament as followeth (that is to say) first & cheifely I commit my soule unto almighty God that gave it trusting to bee saved by the alone merrits of Jesus Christ my blessed savious & redeemer And my body to the Earth to bee decently buried in the Churchyard of King Swinford And as to that worldly estate that it hath pleased God to lend me I dispose thereof as Followeth (vizt) First I give & bequeath unto my deare & loveing wife that joyned Bedstead that standeth in the Chamber over the dwelling house I now live in. the Bed mat Feather bed two Bolsters two pillows and pillow beares three blanketts and three paire of sheets. the Coverlid and all other the furniture belonging to the said Bed And also the joyned Chest & Coffer that stand in the chamber over the dwelling house aforesaid & the linnens that are usually kept in the said Coffer (vizt) two paire of Flaxen sheets and one paire of holland sheets six napkins two table Clothes and one towell and likewise six of the best sheepe that I shall leave six of my best pewter dishes the bigest brasse pan & the bigest brasse Kettle Item I give & bequeath unto my said loveing wife the summe Forty pounds to paid unto her within the space of six monthes next after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Thomas Darby the sume of twenty pounds the moyety thereof to be paid unto him imediately after my decease and the other moyety or remainder to bee paid unto him att the end & expiration of three yeares next & imediately after my decease and likewise I give unto my said sonne Thomas the Coffer that standeth in the chamber wherein hee lieth and all my weareing apparrell the toole hee useth to worke with and A paire of Bellows that are in the possession of one William Walker of the parish of Sedgley. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my sonne Thomas Darby aforesaid and to his heires and assignes for ever All that my Cottage or Tenement Barnes Stables Gardens Orrchards & two Closes of Lands thereto belonging and also all the rights privelidges profitts buildings & appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging which said premisses now are in the holding of one William Baker To hold unto the said Thomas Darby my sonne & his heires & assignes for evermore. Lastly all the rest of my goods chattells Cattell money householdstuffe & implements of husbandry whatsoever not herein before disposed of I give & bequeath unto my sonne John Darby whom I make the Sole Executor of this my last will & testament and I doe hereby revoake all other & former wills & bequests whatsoever by me heretofore made willed or bequeathed In Witnesse whereof I have hereunto put my hand & seale the two & twentieth day of January in the two & thirtieth yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the second by the grace of God King of England Scotland France & Ireland Defender of the Faith &c Annoque Dni 1680:
