Date of Birth: probably about 1153.

Place of Birth: unknown.

Le Strange (p. 59) notes that John seems to have been at least 21 in 1179. He states (p. 82) that John must have been about 80 at his death.


Date of Death: late 1233 or early 1234.

Place of Death: unknown.

The date is given by Le Strange (p. 82). Lieberman (p. 96) gives 1223.

This relationship is given by le Strange (p. 58) and by Lieberman (p. 96).

Mother: Hawise.

This relationship is given by le Strange (p. 58) and by Lieberman (p. 96).


Spouse: Amice la Fusche.

Le Strange (pp. 82-83) and Lieberman (p. 96) call her "Amicia". Cavell (p. 183-4) calls her "Amice la Fusche", noting that "in the early thirteenth century, John Lestrange gave the chapel of his own Leicestershire manor of Shangton, along with his wife's body in death, to the abbey of Lilleshall for his soul and those of his wife and their ancestors." In the Lilleshall cartulary, John's wife is named Amitia or Amicia.
