Cox (p. 31) :"The chronicles of Savoy affirm that he had gathered a great army for an attack against Turin, and that while engaged in a siege of Moncalieri, he was struck down by a 'moult griefve maladie.' However this may be, Thomas was very likely in Italy and very likely at war again when he died, on 1 March 1233."
