Relationships

Father: Fulk Paynel.

This relationship is given by EYC (6:53) and by Loyd (p. 41). Early Yorkshire Charters (6:53-55) discusses the identity of this Fulk, concluding that “[t]he balance of the evidence points to the suggestion that Gundred was another daughter of Fulk Paynel of Bampton, though perhaps not by his wife Alda who was living as late as 1226.” It also states, however, that Fulk Paynel II (of Drax) must not be ruled out entirely. I have also seen the suggestion that the father of Gundred was Fulk Paynel of Bampton’s father, who is called Fulk by Sanders (p. 5), although other sources (e.g. Keats-Rohan) call him William.

Mother: unknown.

Spouse: Matthew de Feritate.

This relationship is given by EYC (6:53) and by Loyd (p. 41).

Spouse: Ralph de Bray.

This relationship is given by EYC (6:53).

Children (by Matthew):

William de La Ferté married Margery Brewer.
