Father or (more likely) Grandfather: Barisone I.

Fois notes that there may be two Marianos whom some sources are combining into one. A donation by Barisone to the monastery of Montecassino, made in 1064/65, given in La Sardegna Medievale (document 1) mentions his nepote Marianus. Saura considers Mariano's father to be unknown, rejecting the suggestion given in the Genealogie di Sardegna that he was Andrea Tanca.

Spouse: Susanna de Thori (or Susanna Gunale or Susanna de Zori).

This relationship is given by Fois, which notes that the second wife attributed to Mariano, “Giusta”, was probably just an honorific name applied to Susanna.
