Petition of the Town of Whitehaven: that the Township of Corkickle and Preston above the Brow be re-united with Whitehaven for poor relief

These places have profited much by the coal trade, the cause of the growth of the poor's number; and obtained the [separation] order "Lately, in a very Clandestine Manner, and by misrepresentation"; Whitehaven has suffered loss by enemy and shipwreck, whereas Preston etc.'s lands have greatly risen in value. Signed by 28 leading Whitehaven men, including John Gale, Elisha Gale, Ebenezer Gale, Thomas Hutchinson, Henry Wood. See also Q/11/1/101/3 and Q/11/1/102/9
