This relationship is given by Keats-Rohan (p. 563), who gives William's father as Roger I de Maisnilwarin. Leycester (Ormerod 3:229) gives William’s father as Roger, and his grandfather a Ranulf, who held land in Cheshire and Norfolk at the Domesday survey. Some evidence for this appears in Farrer (ii, pp. 227-8).
