Bartrum gives him a generation number of 10 in his dating scheme, implying a birth date in, very roughly, the first half of the 1300s.

The first dates are given by Bartrum (Mabon Glochydd 2), citing the Dictionary of Welsh Heraldry. Carr (1979, p. 147) states that Gruffudd was still alive in 1396.

This relationship is given by Carr (1979, p. 139). It is shown by Bartrum (Mabon Glochydd 2), who names her Teili.


Spouse: Gwenllian ferch Cynwrig Sais.

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Mabon Glochydd 2; Edwin 15). Carr (1979, pp. 146-147) states that "according to some pedigrees" Gruffudd was married to a daughter of Cynwrig Sais, citing Bartrum. Carr (1975, p. 129), calling her Lleucu, states that "there must be some doubt about this since there is a good deal of confusion about Cynwrig's daughters."
