Commentary
Ann’s parentage:
A submission to the IGI gives a marriage 6 December 1710 in Llanidloes of Andrew Brees and Anne Meredith. The digital images of the register I have seen are mostly illegible for 1710, but it is likely that entries are more legible on the physical registers, which I have not seen.
The marriage is consistent with other information on the family of Andrew Brees. His eldest daughter was baptized in Llanidloes in September 1711 (parents Andrew and Ann). The rest of his children were baptized and buried in Trefeglwys, where “Anne the wife of Andrew Brees was buried June the Seaventeenth 1735” (parish register).
The Trefeglwys parish register records the marriage of Thomas Meredith and Elizabeth Beversley 9 May 1676.
The parish registers of Trefeglwys and Llanidloes record these baptisms:
Ann daughter of Thomas Meredith – 17 April 1677 Trefeglwys
Meredith son of Thomas Meredith – 13 October 1678 Trefeglwys
Roger son of Thomas Meredith – 30 May 1681 Llanidloes
John son of Thomas Meredith – 17 March 1683/4 Llanidloes
Evan son of Thomas Meredith – 7 June 1687 Llanidloes
Anne daughter of Thomas Meredith – 28 June 1690 Llanidloes
Diana daughter of Thomas Meredith – 2 May 1691 Llaindloes
In his 1701 will, Roger Beversley of Trefeglwys left a bequest to Elizabeth wife of Thomas Meredith, followed by bequests to Meredith Thomas, Roger Thomas, John Thomas, Edward Thomas, and Ann Thomas. It is fairly clear that Meredith Thomas and so on are the children recorded in the baptisms above, with the patronymic Thomas.
Assuming the marriage submitted to the IGI is correct, then it seems that Ann was baptized in 1690 and was called “Ann Thomas” in Roger Beversley’s will and “Ann Meredith” in her marriage record.
However, most of Thomas Meredith’s children continued to use the patronymic Thomas. In her 1724 will, Bridget Lloyd widow of Llanidloes refers to a bond of money in the hands of Meredith Thomas and Roger.
Roger is called Roger Thomas in his 1729 probate bond.
