George Cooke (1684 - 1755)

George’s residence is given as Marton in the baptism records of his children. In his will, it is given as Burbury (Birdingbury). His occupation is given in his will as “husbandman”.

Events

Date of Birth: about 1684.

His burial record gives his age at death as 71. The marriage bond, in contrast, gives his age in 1729 as 35. The baptism record supports the age given in the burial record.

Date of Baptism: about 20 January 1684/5.

Place of Baptism: Birdingbury, Warwickshire (St Leonard’s).

The parish register records the baptism. The exact date is unclear (there is a smudge after “vicessimo”).

Date of Burial: 11 December 1755.

Place of Burial: Birdingbury, Warwickshire.

The parish register records the burial.

Relationships

Father: George Cooke (1628 - 1708).

George mentions his brother Thomas Cooke of Rugby in his will. Thomas's 1769 will mentions George's grandchildren, as well as George and Thomas's sister Emmeria, which makes the identification of the family certain. George's father’s name is given in his baptism record.

Mother: Grace (died 1717).

George's mother’s first name is given in his father’s will.

Spouse: Anne Neale. Married 1 December 1729 in Coventry, Warwickshire (St Michael’s).

Although married in Coventry, the residence of both is given as “Burdenbury”.

Children:

(Complete source citations for facts about the children on this page are currently outside of the scope of this project.)

Emery Cooke (baptized 1 June 1731 in Birdingbury - buried 20 June 1731 Birdingbury). She was presumably named after her father’s sister, Emmeria.

George Cooke (baptized 21 August 1733 in Birdingbury - died 10 April 1819) married (1) Jane Clement 14 October 1753 in Ashow, Warwickshire; married (2) Mary, widow of [...] Cooke, 8 December 1800 in Warwick, St Mary’s.
