Commentary
Elizabeth’s parentage:
Elizabeth’s marriage record gives her abode as Haresfield. Her eldest child was baptized in 1739/40 and her youngest child in 1761. This suggests that she was born between about 1711 and 1725. The only plausible baptism is that of Elizabeth daughter of Anselm and Elizabeth Ridler in Haresfield in 1722/3. This would make Elizabeth aged only 14 at her marriage, but her husband was 19, and she had children over a span of more than 20 years, implying that she was married fairly young. Also, she died less than three years after the birth of her youngest child, suggesting that perhaps her child-bearing years were not over when she died.
The Painswick parish register records the marriage of Anselm Ridler and Elizabeth Bates in 1718.
