L’Art de vérifier les dates, Feuchère, and Tanner make Hugues (II) the son of Hugues (I). Cawley doubts the reliability of the sole source for this, the Chronicle of Guines and Ardres. L’Art de vérifier les dates makes Hugues (I) the son of Roger, but Feuchère (1953, p. 130) expresses some doubt about this. Nieus suggests that the parents of Hugues (II) were probably Hugues (I) and Clemence, whom he suggests was a daughter of Roger, count of Saint-Pol, and Hadvise. He bases this on onomastic arguments.

Spouse: Helissende de Ponthieu.

This relationship is given by Nieus.
