Commentary
Sarah’s parentage
Sarah Harbord married William Bloxham in 1758 in Burton Dassett.
In his 1775 will, William Harbert of Fenny Compton named his daughter Sarah Bloxham. He also mentioned his wife Sarah, daughters named Mary and Esther, and sons named Thomas and William.
The Harbury parish register records the baptisms of these children of William and Sarah Harbert:
Mary in 1735;
Sarah in 1737;
Esther in 1739;
Thomas in 1741.
Clearly this is the same family, and Sarah’s parents were William Harbert and his wife Sarah.
There is additonal evidence that William Harbert of Fenny Compton was connected to Harbury:
The 1757 will of Richard Davenport of Harbury mentions a bond owed to him by William Herbert of Fenny Compton.
In a 1774 poll book, a William Harbert was listed as registered in Harbury but living in Fenny Compton.
There is additional evidence that the 3 April 1737 baptism in Harbury is the correct one: Sarah’s 29 January 1820 burial entry in the Burton Dassett register records her age at death as 82. This exactly fits.
