Esther Harbert (baptized 29 April 1739 in Harbury) married Henry Chater, blacksmith, 17 October 1765 in Fenny Compton, Warwickshire.


Thomas Harbert (baptized 25 June 1741 in Harbury - buried 21 August 1807 in Fenny Compton) married Anne Barber 22 December 1784 in Fenny Compton.


William Harbert (born about 1746 - buried 8 February 1826 in Lighthorne, Warwickshire) married Elizabeth Griffin 7 January 1778 in Fenny Compton.


Evidence


The 1757 will of Richard Davenport of Harbury mentions a bond owed to him by William Herbert of Fenny Compton.


1774 Poll Book:


William Harbert (registered in Harbury, abode Fenny Compton) voted for Charles Mordaunt (a Whig).


William's will:


In the Name of God Amen I William Harbert of Fenny Compton in the County of Warwick Yeoman Tho weak in Body yet of a Sound and Disposing mind and memory Do make and Ordain this my last will and Testament in manner Following that is to say First and Principally I Commend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God my Creator Hoping for mercy and pardon for all my sins Through the merits of my Redeemer Christ Jesus my Body I Commit to the Earth to be Decently Interred at the Discretion of my Executors Herein after Named And as to my Estates which it hath pleased Almighty God to Bestow upon me I Do give and Bequeath the same as follows. that is to say Item I Do give and Bequeath unto my Loving Wife Sarah Harbert Yearly and Every year During the Term of her Natural Life the yearly sum of Ten pounds a year Clear of all Deductions whatsoever by two Equal half yearly payments in the year and the first payment to be made within six months Next after my Deceace Likewise I Do give and Bequeath my aforesaid wife the Bed which I Lie on and all thereto Belonging for her proper Use Dureing her Naturall Life and after her Deceace to my Executors Hereinafter Named Item I Do give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Smith one shilling Item I Do give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah Bloxham Five pounds of good and Lawfull money of Great Brittin and to be paid to her by my afternamed Executors within Twelve months next after my Deceace Item I Do give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Esther Chater Ten pounds of LIke Lawfull money and Do Direct the same to be paid to her in Twelve months Next after my Deceace Item I Do give and Bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Sarah Bloxham five pounds to be paid to her when she Comes to the age of Twenty one years Item I Do give and Bequeath unto my son Thomas Harbert my Half yard Land be it more or Less and all thereto Belonging Lieing in the Common and open Fields of Harbury in the County aforesaid to him and his Heirs for Ever Item I Do give and Bequeath unto my son William Harbert all my messuages and Tenements Barns Yards Closes and all thereto Belonging at Radford in the County aforesaid to him and his Heirs for Ever Item all the Rest and Residue of my goods Chattels Cattle Stock Crops money and security for money of what Nature or kind soever and wheresoever not Herein before by me Disposed of I Do give and Bequeath unto my two Sons Tho.s Harbert and Will.m Harbert to be Divided Equally Between them which I Charge with the payment of the aforesaid Legacies and all other Due Debts Item I Do Nominate Constitute and appoint my said sons Thomas Harbert and William Harbert sole Executors of this my Last will and Testament and I Do Revoke all former wills by me at any time hereto fore made and Do publish and Declare this to be my Last will in witness whereof I the said Testator William Harbert have heunto Set my Hand and Seal this Twenty fourth Day of July One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy five

Commentary


There were two baptisms of William Harberts in Harbury in the appropriate time period:

  1. 6 March 1697/8, father Thomas Harbert.

  2. 25 October 1702, father William Harbert.

The one baptized in 1702 seems to have been buried in Harbury 1727 (“Guilielmus Herbert (filius Guilielmi”).
