Commentary

A complication in determining Jane’s baptism is that there were four baptisms of a Jane Pryce recorded in Llandinam between 1792 and 1794 in the bishop's transcripts, and no burials. Strangely, all baptisms were to parents named John and Sarah Pryce. The original records on which the bishop's transcripts were based appear to be somewhat chaotic, to go by those available as digital images on Ancestry.com and Findmypast.co.uk, although I haven't done a careful investigation. Only one John Pryce is listed in the 1798 Land Tax Redemption as living in Llandinam (on College Lands, in the parish of Dethenydd). Other evidence suggests there were other John Pryces active in the area in the time period.

Jane's signature in the marriage entry in the parish register matches that of a Jane Pryce who was a witness, along with a John Pryce, to an 1808 marriage of an Edward Pryce. John, Jane, and Edward are all names of children mentioned in the will of John Pryce of Llandinam, made in 1791 and proved in 1802. He also names his wife, Sarah, and another daughter, Mary. The sons, at least, are underage. John's signature on the will matches that on a 1788 marriage entry in the Llandinam parish register for a marriage between John Pryce, widower, and Sarah Davies, widow. It also matches the signature of the John Price who married Mary Williams in Llandinam in 1781.

The will of the mother of John's first wife, Mary Williams, made in 1800, names "my Grandchildren John Pryces Children /that is to say/ John Pryce and Edward Pryce," but does not name Mary or Jane. She seems to name all of her other grandchildren, male or female.

Taken together, I believe the evidence points towards John's will being that of the father of the Jane of this page. The Jane mentioned in that will died between 1791 and 1794, and another Jane (perhaps more than one) was born at that time.
