Bleddyn ap Tudur ap Rhys Sais

Morris (p. 285) states that Bleddyn inherited from his father his lands in Maelor, while Bleddyn’s brother, Gronwy, inherited lands in Whittington.

Events

Date of Birth: unknown.

Bartrum’s generational dating scheme implies a birth date of, very approximately, 1100.

Date of Death: unknown.

Relationships

Father: Tudur ap Rhys Sais ab Ednyfed.

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Tudur Trefor 2), and given by Mostyn (p. 11), by Dwnn (2:307), by Lloyd (1:312), by Carr (p. 6), and by the 1623 Visitation of Shropshire (p. 261). These all rely on late sources. There appear to be no surviving contemporary records which mention Bleddyn. Morris (p. 285) also gives this relationship, but I am not sure what source he is using.

Mother: unknown.

Bartrum has Tudur’s wife as unknown. Dwnn (2:307), Lloyd (1:312), and the 1623 Visitation of Shropshire (p. 261) give her name as Jane ferch Rhys Fychan ap Rhys ap Maredudd. Mostyn (p. 11) notes that Rhys Fychan has not been satisfactorily identified.

Spouse: Annes ferch Llywelyn ab Idnerth

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Tudur Trefor 2, Elystan Glodrydd 1), and given by Dwnn (2:307), and by Lloyd (1:312).

Children:

(Complete source citations for facts about the children on this page are currently outside of the scope of this project. Bartrum and Mostyn give the children below. Dwnn gives Owain, but instead of Madog and Bleddyn Fychan gives Iorwerth, Cynfrig, and Heilyn.)

Owain married Efa ferch Madog Gôch ap Iorwerth Gôch.

Madog

Bleddyn Fychan

Commentary

The information on this page seems to come from late sources. It is not clear how much confidence we should place in them. It is true that property held by the man given as Bleddyn’s father here is later held by men given as his descendants.
