In the name of god amen the xth day of Maye anno dom 1573 & in the yere of the Reigne of our soveraigne Lady Elizabeth by the grace of God of englnd france & Irelande Quene defender of the faythe &c the fyvethtene I William Rowles of harsfeild in the county of Gloucr husbandman, sicke in bodie but of good and p[er]fect memorie praysed be god do make my last will & testament in manner & forme lollowinge Inprimis I geve remitt & bequethe my sowle unto allmightie God my saviour & redemer & my bodie unto the earth frome Whence it had his originall beginninge & beinge & to be buryed in the church yeard of harsfeild Item I bequeth unto Johan my wyfe the bedd that we do ly on with a payre of sheets a payre of blanckets a couerlett and a boulster. Item an other stockbed in the soller with a payr of sheets a payre of blanckets & a boulster: Item ij potts namely the second best & the third best Item ij pannes the second & third Item ij Candlesticks & halfe a dozen of pewter & also the bedstead which I do ly on. Further the same day before & in the presence of the wittnesses hereunder named the sayd william declared his testament or last will nuncupative as Followethe viz he willed & bequeathed to George Rowles his brother that he should enioy his howse that he nowe dwelleth in with thappurtenances thereunto belonginge duringe his lyf, payinge unto hyme the sayd Willm Rowles & his heires fyve shillings by the yere yerely at ij usuall feasts due the same viz at the fast of St Mychaell tharchangell & thannunciacon of our Lady by equall portions and willed & devised that his heires should pay unto his [proude?] eldest brother yerely fyve shillings of real & lawfull money out of the sayde howse And willed & bequeated that the Residue of his goods not geven nor bequeathed (his debts & legaces beinge payd) shoulde remayne & be distributed amonst his chilldren which shall be moost neede by the discretion of his brother Bartholomew Rowles & George Rowles Robt Smyth Henry Merey & Robt Redferne Theis being wittnesses
