Relationships

Father: Óláf Sihtricson (Óláfr Sigtryggsson, Amlaíb mac Sitric) (died 1034).

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (EVWG Early Series [41]) and given by Pryce (ODNB “Gruffudd ap Cynan”). The ultimate source of the information is The History of Gruffydd ap Cynan § 1. This source is often unreliable, but probably right about this relationship. (See Jones, p. 46; Baldwin, LaI). Modern scholarship seems to accept it (for example, Hudson: Viking Pirates, p. 120; ODNB article “Sihtric (d. 1042)”; Maund p. 89).

Mother: Máelcorcre ingen Dúnlaing.

This information is also given in The History of Gruffydd ap Cynan § 1. The comments on the reliability of this source above also apply here.

Spouse: Cynan ab Iago ab Idwal.

The notes for the relationship with the father also apply here.

Children:

Gruffudd married Angharard ferch Owain about 1095; married a daughter of Llychwy of Llanbeulan, Llifon; married Perwyr ferch Brân.

From Guy’s critical edition of the Llywelyn ab Iorwerth genealogies, which were based on an archetype created no later than the first half of the fourteenth century from an original compilation dating to the early thirteenth century, partly based on earlier written sources (Note that Guy is striving for textual rather than genealogical accuracy):
