This yere Thomas Cocke of Picthorne deceased gave the sume of give pounds to remayne a stock to be sett fourthe by the Churchwardens of the said p’ishe of Stotesdon, from tyme to tyme, that tenne shillings the encrease thereof, yerelie renewinge may Continue to be distributed to the use of the poore of the said p’ishe for ever


The will of Thomas Cocke:


In the name of god amen The six and twentith Daye of Julye in the yeare of our Lorde god one thousand five hundred Eighty seaven./ I Thomas. Cocke of Pickthorne within the parrishe of Stotesdon and Dioces of Hereford yeoman sick in bodye but of good and perfect remembrance praised be god doe ordayne and make this my Last will and testament in manner and forme following / First I com[m]end my soule into the mercifull hands of Almighty god my onely maker and Redemer And my bodye to be buryed in christen buriall / Item I give and bequeathe towards the repayring of the Cathedrall churche of Hereford twelve pence / Item I give and bequeathe to the poore of the towne of Bewdley twenty shillings Item I give and bequeath to the poore of the parrishe of Chetton tenne shillings Item I give and bequeathe to the poore people of the parrishe of Muche Wenlocke six shillings eighte pence Item I will that my executors shall deliver Five pounds to the Collectors of the poore people of the same parrishe of Stotesdon to the use and benefite of the saide poore to be sett forth for a yearely Annuitye to be paide them at the discreacon and oversighte of my executors and overseers hereafter named / Item I give and bequeath unto John Joane Elynor Margaret Alice Marye and Margery Bruckhouse children of John Bruckhouse the some of six pounds thirtene shillings fower pence apeece to be paide within one halfe yeare after the decease of me and my wyfe Item I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Dolman twenty pounds And to Francis Blakeweys my godsonne twenty pounds to be paide unto them within one halfe yeare after the decease of me and my wyfe / Item I give and bequeathe unto Alice Parker my servante(?) mayde a heyfer in calfe to be delivered within one halfe yeare next after my Decease/ Item I give and bequeathe to Richard Weaver and Roger my Servante men six shilllings eighte pence apeece / Item I give and bequeath to my kinsman Thomas Cocke tenne shillings / Item I give and bequeathe unto all my godchildren twoe sheepe apeece to eache of them / Item I forgive Thomas Ham[m]ond my godsonne of Stotesden shoemaker forty shillings the whiche he oweth me / Item I give and bequeathe to John Barker Clerk Thomas Rea Robert Bruckhouse iunior and John Norgrove six pounds thirtene shillings foure pence apeece to eache of them severally Item I give and bequeath to Humfrye Richard Alice Anne and Elizabeth sonnes and daughters of Richard Norgrove of Overwoode the som[m]e of six pounds thirtene shillings foure pence apeece to be paide within one yeare next after the decease of me and my wyfe / Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Bruckhouse the wyfe of John Bruckhouse six pounds thirtene shillings foure pence And my Will is that she shall have the use and benefite thereof Item I give and bequeathe unto Elynor Blakeway my daughter the som[m]e of six pounds thirtene shillings foure pence / Item I give and bequeathe to Roger John Elizabeth and Jone sonnes and daughters of William Blakeway of Patten foure kyen being in the custodye of the saide William Blakewey theire father equally to be devided amongest them / Item I give and bequeathe to Anne my base daughter the daughter of one Blannche Cadwallider the som[m]e of Tenne pounds / Item I give and bequeathe to Thomas Bruckhouse sonne of John Bruckhouse the house and tenements with all and singuler thappurtenances thereunto belonging wherein one Thomas Butler Weaver now dwelleth in Stotesden aforesaid in the County of Salop to the use and behoofe of him the said Thomas Bruckhouse and his heires for ever / Item after the decease of me and my wyfe I give and bequeathe to Alice Holland my daughter my best Fetherbed with all that thereunto belongeth / Item I give and bequeath to Margery Walter a cowe / Item Thomas Holland of Burwarton gentleman oweth me thirty pounds fourscore pounds The whiche my Will and minde is to have it distributed and equally devided amongest all his children / Item I give and bequeathe unto my kinswomand Margery Cocke foure sheepe / Item I give and bequeathe to my sister in Lawe Elizabeth Cocke foure sheepe Item I give and bequeathe to my kinsman Robert Cocke a heyfer / Item I give and bequeathe to my sonne in lawe Mr Hollands five children Five pounds apeece/ Item I have certein sheepe in bargaine with my brother Humfrye Cocke my Will is that the said sheepe shalbe equally devided amongest his Children Item my knisman Robert Cocke oweth me tenne pounds of the which I forgive him five pounds of the saide tenne pounds Item I give and bequeath unto Humfrye Barbor and Elizabeth Doughty tenne shillings apeece/ Provided allwayes that if it happen the foresaid Thomas Bruckhouse to whome I have given the said house and tenement in Stotesden to decease without yssue of his bodye lawfully begotten Then my minde and will is that Elizabeth Bruckhouse my Daughter and her assignes shall have the saide house and tenement with thappurtenances thereunto belonging for ever / Item I give and bequeathe to my kinsman William Cocke foure sheep Item I give and bequeathe unto Roger John Elizabeth and Joane sonnes and daughters of William Blakewey the som[m]e of Five pounds apeece / Item I give and bequeathe to Thomas and Anne the sonne and daughter of Walter Dolman Five pounds / Item I give and bequeathe to Joane Lieche and her sonne all the house and tenement with thappurtenances thereunto belonging for and during the terme [of] yeares unexpired of the saide house and tenement the whiche I tooke by Lease of one Lammret(?) ap John for certein yeares yet to come. And also I give them twenty shillings / Item I give and bequeath to Joane Norgrove my daughter Five pounds / Item Walter Dolman oweth me twenty pounds by specialtye for a stocke of charge, my minde and will it is to forgive him the same twenty pounds with all the arrerages thereof due/ Further I will that Robert Bruckhouse iunior and John Norgreave shalbe two of my executors to whome I have given six pounds thirtene shillings foure pence apeece as it appeareth in this my said Last will and testament my meaning is that they shall have the said six pounds thirtene shillings foure pence for theire paynes and theire charges and expences indifferently borne and susteyned by Agnes my wyfe to whome I give and bequeathe all the rest of my goods and chattells moveable and unmoveable unbequeathed and unnamed whatsoever I give and bequeath the said Agnes Cocke my wyfe whome also I make and appointe the principall and cheife executrix of this my Last will and testament to see the same iustly and truly executed and performed according to the true meaning hereof. I make overseers John Barker Clerk and Thomas Rea of this my Last will and testament/ This bearing wittnes/ John Barker Clerk / Walter Dolman / John Faulten / Thomas Rea.
