William Moss

Events

Date of Birth: unknown.

Place of Birth: unknown.

Date of Death: 23 May 1716.

The death is recorded in the probate inventory.

Date of Burial: 4 May 1716.

Place of Burial: Nettleham, Lincolnshire.

The burial is recorded in the parish register. There is an obvious contradiction with the date of death given in the probate inventory. My guess is that the burial entries were copied from a sheet of paper at the end of the year into the register book, and the error occurred then.

Relationships

(probable) Grandfather: Henry Moss.

(probable) Grandmother: Joan.

The 1669 will of Henry Moss mentions his wife Jonne and his son William. Since Henry's will doesn't mention a daughter Elizabeth, and the William of this page had a sister Elizabeth who was unmarried in 1674, I am guessing that the William who died in 1680 was the son of Henry and the father of the William of this page and his sister Elizabeth. However, the line may go through the William Mosse listed under Nettleham in the 1641 Protestation Returns if he is not the (probable) father mentioned below.

(probable) Father: William Moss.

William's burial is recorded in the parish register.

(probable) Mother: Margaret.

Margaret's burial is recorded in the parish register.

Sister: Elizabeth Moss (buried 4 December 1718 in Nettleham) married Robert Allis 9 May 1674 in Nettleham.

Elizabeth is named in William's will.

Spouse: Mary Blansher. Married 2 June 1681 in Nettleham.

The marriage is recorded in the parish register.

Spouse: Ann Robisson. Married 23 November 1688 in Nettleham.

The marriage is recorded in the parish register.

Children:

(Complete source citations for facts about the children on this page are currently outside of the scope of this project.)

John Moss (baptized 31 December 1682 in Nettleham) married Ann.

William Moss (baptized 10 January 1683/4 in Nettleham) married (1) Ann; married (2) Elizabeth.

Robert Moss (baptized 1 October 1685 in Nettleham) married (1) Mary; married (2) Elizabeth Vickers 6 June 1713 in Nettleham.

Mary Moss (baptized 29 April 1688 in Nettleham) married Joseph Chambers 3 April 1711 in Nettleham.

Commentary

The 1688 baptism for Mary Moss is from the FamilySearch index of the bishop’s transcripts. It does not appear in the parish register. I am not sure if Mary Blansher died and William then married Ann Robisson, or if this is another couple.
