Eyton (9:319) gives 1399. Anne died before her brother Thomas, who died 31 January 22 Rich. II [1398/9]. (Calendar of Close Rolls 4 Hen. IV, p. 23).

This relationship is given by the Shropshire VCH (11:sub Wellington) and by Eyton (9:319). It is recorded in the plea rolls from 1402 (Wrottesley p. 224), in the inquisition post mortem of Anne’s sister Helen, and in the Close Rolls (cited above).

Mother: unknown.


Spouse: William de Knightley.

This relationship is given by the Shropshire VCH (11:sub Wellington) and by Eyton (9:319). It is recorded in the plea rolls from 1402 (Wrottesley p. 224). Eyton states that he is of the Knightleys of Gnosall.

Evidence


from the plea rolls (Wrottesley p. 224):


Thomas Cherlton, of Appeley, held the manors of Withiford and Hagurcote and other lands of the King in capite, and died temp. Richard 2.

[His daughter is shown as Anne.]


From another suit, Coram Rege, of the same date, it appeared that Ann Cherlton had married William de Knighteleye without the consent of her guardian, John de Knighteleye.
