In the name god amen, The xjth day of Maye in the Sixtenth yere of the Raign of our Sou[er]aigne Ladye Elizabeth by the grace of god quene of England France and Ireland defendrix of the faith &c et Ao dni 1574, I John Gylles of the p[ar]ishe of Sheldwiche in the Countie of Kent yoman, beynge of whole mynde, and in good & p[er]fect remembrance Land & prayse be to Almyghtie god, make & ordayn this my p[re]sent Testament con[...]inge herin my last will in man[er] & forme followinge, (that is to saie) Fyrst I commend my sowle unto almyghtie god my maker & redeemer and my bodye to be buried in the p[ar]ishe church of Churchyard of Sheldwiche afore said, and I bequethe unto the poore mens boxe of the same p[ar]ishe xxs Itm I will & bequethe towards the Rep[ar]acons of the said p[ar]ishe Church of Sheldwiche xxs, Itm I gyve & bequethe towards the rep[ar]acons of the p[ar]ishe Churche of Leavlande xxs, Itm I will & bequeth to the rep[ar]acons of the Churche of Badismer xs, all & singler the gyfts & bequethes afore said I will to be paid & delyu[er]ed to the use & behoffe aboue sayd within one Twelvmoneth next after my Decease/ And wheras my sonne Averey Gills late decessed was bounde unto me his father in the some of a hundreth pounds of Lawfull money of England for the payment of Seven pounds yerlye to me his said father at the feast of St Michaell tharchangell duringe the terme of my naturall Life, as by an obligacon with condycon of his owne wrytinge beringe Date the xxvth day of June in the fourt yere of the raign of our said sou[er]aign ladye que[e]n Elizabeth more playnlie doth appere, and hath not payd but onlie for the Fyrst Foure yers from the tyme of the makynge of the said obligacon, Now con[...]inge the Resydue of the yerlie somes from the Furst iij yers untill the Day of my Decesse beinge to me verey Due Dett, & unpaid with tharreage, I will & bequeth it to Alce my wife & Gabriell my sonne indyfferentlie to be devided betwen them Itm my will is that my wife shall haue the best Chamber that she shall like of within my mansyon house where I nowe dwelle as longe as she myndith to abyde & dwell ther, and in case my said wife refuse & be not willinge to be within, with my said sonne Gabriell & contynue ther, Then my will is that she shall haue my house & Tenyment in Backsall with all the lands to the same belonginge with appurtenances terme of her naturall liff The resydue of all my goods, Cattells; & detts after my detts paid, my funerall expenses p[er]formed and these my Legacies conteyned inthis my p[re]sent testament fulfylled I whollie gyve & bequethe to Alce my said wiffe & Gabriell Gilles my sonne equallie to be devyded betwen them (if they can not agree otherwise) and of this my p[re]sent Testament I make & ordayn the said Alce my wife & Gabriell my sonne myn Executors, These beinge witnesses, Thomas Uncle, Willm Upton and I Thomas Byrkhedd vicar of Throwleigh./
