This relationship is given by Flanagan (ODNB) and by the Complete Peerage (2:447). Keats-Rohan (p. 243) states that Theobald was the son of Haimo de Valenis, a Breton tenant of Count Alan in 1086. Other sources give that relationship as merely "likely".
