In dei nomine amen The first daye of November in the yere of our Lorde god one thousande five hundreth thre score and ij. And in the iiij^th yere of the Raigne of o^r soueraigne Ladie Elizabeth by the grace of god of England Fraunce and Irelande Quene defendor of the faith &c. I Thomas Hall of the borrow, and parish of Horsham in the Countie of Sussex gentleman being sick in my boddie, nevertheless of good and parfect mynde and memory, thankes be given to almightie god therfore doe ordaine make devise and declare this my last Will and Testamente in manner and forme followinge. First I bequeath my soule to almightie god, my maker and redemer, trusting to be saved and to be p[ar]taker of the ioyes everlasting, throughe and by the merritts and bitter passion of my only and sole redemer, and savior Jesus Christe, and my boddie to be buried in the Parrish Churche of Horsham aforesaide in the north syde of the same Churche, beneth M^r Copeis chappell, and as nere unto my mother as maye be. Item I bequeath unto the same churche -- x s. Item I bequeath towards the reparac[i]on of the spire of the Steple of the same churche -- v s. viij d. Item I give and bequeath unto the saide John Hall my kinsman one silver salte parcell gilte, one goblet of silver p[ar]cell gilte, and xji. silver Spoones to be delivered unto hym and to be his ymmediatly after my decease saiving that my mynde and will is, that Elizabeth Hall my wief shall have the use and occupieng of vj. of the saide Spoones for the terme of her lief. and after her decease, the saide Spoones to remaine to the saide John Hawle and to his assignes. Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Hall my laiving Wief all suche and those goods, wares, and m[er]chandises, as are now or shalbe at the tyme of my decease in my shoppes to be delivered unto her and to be hers ymmediatly after my decease: And I give and bequeath unto the same Elizabeth my wief all the household stuff and plate whiche were the same Elizabethes at the tyme of o^r marriage with all my waynes Carts yokes, chaynes, ploughes, harrowes, with all other ymplements and necessaries of husbandrie. Item I will that the same Elizabeth my Wief shall have thuse and occupieng for terme of her lief of ij of my fether bedds whiche I broughte Unto her with theire bowlsters Coverings, pillowes, and anything else belonging thereunto. And after her decease the saide beddes with theire app[er]ten[an]ces to remaine to myne executor. Item I give and bequeath unto the same Elizabeth my Wief all my Corne in the feldes and in the barne excepte one quarter of Wheate and one quarter of malte whiche I will and bequeath unto Roger Foyce to be delivered unto hym within one month next after my decease. Item I will give and bequeath unto my saide wief all the tythe corne and graynt of my parte of the personage of Horsham and she to discharge all duties, and Rents due for the same, my parte of the saide personage./ And I will unto my saide wief all my bacon in the Ruff or otherwise. Item I will that there be a quart[er] of Wheate and a quarter of malte reserved oute of my Legacie of Corne above given to be spent and bestowed at the tyme of my buriall. Item I give and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth my Wief during her naturall Lief only and no longer in recompence of her Dowre and ioynture one Annuytie or yerely rente of xvjj li. vj s. viij d. of good and lawfull moommey of englonde issuing and yerely to be paied unto her at the ij. Feaste in the yere most usuall by even porc[i]ons by myne executor or his assignes. And for defalte of paimente of the same I will that the same Elizabeth my Wief shall and maye distraine uppon all my lands tennements and hereditaments, and every parte and parcell thereof, wheresoever the same be within this Realme of Englonde, except my Shopp with thapp[ur]ten[an]ces which I bought of Roger Foyce Lyeing in the borow of Horsham and the chambers ov[er] and nere the same Shopp, and also except my other Shopp there which I bought of John Agas; And the distres there so taken Lawfully to Leade beare and carre awaye, and the same to detaine untill my saide wish shalbe of the saide Annuytie or yerely Rente of - xvij li. v s. viij d together with thanerage thereof yf eny be fully satisfied contented and paied. Item I give and bequeath unto the saide Elizabeth my Wief all that my saide Shopp with thapp[ur]ten[an]ces in Horsham aforesaid which I bought of the saide Roger Foyce/ and also my saide other Shopp in Horsham aforesaid/ which I bought of the saide John Agas, and the Chambers and buildings which I bought with the saide Shoppes and either of them to have, and to holde the said ij Shoppes, Chambers, and other buildings with thapp[ur]ten[an]ces unto my said Wief during her naturall lief only and no longer and after her decease I will that the same ij Shoppes and premisses with theapp[ur]ten[an]ces shall remaine and come to her sonne George Hall To have and to holde unto the same George Hall his heires and assignes for ev[er]. Item I give and bequeath unto Joh Mascall my sister Elnors Sonne, all those my landes tennements and hereditaments scituate Lyeng and beinge in th^e parrishes of Fittelworth and Eyyden in the saide Countie of Sussex now or late in the severall tenures and occupac[i]ons of Thomas Leonard and Thomas Stempt, or their assignes except one tennemente with heapp[ur]ten[an]ces called Selfromes, and one acre of meddow Lyenge in Byworth meade before given and bequeathed unto Agnes Mascall sister unto the saide John Maskall, and to her heires and assignes forev[er]. And also unto the saide John Maskall I give and bequeath all other my Landes tennements and hereditaments What soev[er] scituate lyeng and being in the saide parishes of Fittellworth and Eyyden, or eny of them by what name or names so ever the same be called had taken reputed or knowen except alwaies before excepted. Item I give and bequeath unto the same John Maskall all those my landes tennements and hereditaments in Kerdforde in the saide Countie of Sussex kalled Cotterlande and Staplehurst/ To have and to holde, all the saide landes tenements and p[re]misses above given and bequeathed unto the saide John Mascall I Saye to the same John Maskall his heires and assignes for ev[er]. Neverthelesse my very will mynde intente and purpose is that myne executor his heires executors and assignes shall have take and receive the Rents, Issues and proffitts of all my saide Landes and tennements above given and bequeathed Unto the said John Maskall towards and for the p[er]formance of this my Last Will, and testamente unto the said John Maskall shall come to his age of xxv. yeres And then the said Landes and tennements and the whole Rents Issues and proffits thereof to goe and to be unto the saide John Maskall and his heires as is aforesaide Nevertheles if it fortune my saide Wief to live Untill the said John Maskall shall come to his age of xxv. yeres, then my very will, mynde and intente is that my saide executor his heires executors and assignes shall have take, and receive the whole rents Issues and proffitts thereof Untill my saide wives decease; and then the saide Landes & tenements to goe and to be unto the saide John Maskall, and his heires as is aforesaide, anything before menc[i]oned to the contrary notwithstanding . Item I give and bequeath unto the said John Hall all those my landes and tennements in byllinghurst in the saide Countie of Sussex called Edefeld containing by estimac[i]on - xviij. Which is due unto me and myne heires oute of certaine Landes in Billingshurst late Seigroves called Frithwood to hym the said John Hall, and to his heires and assignes for ever Item I give, and bequeath unto the same John Hall all those my landes and tennements in Littl Kingeston besids Anymerige[?] in the saide Countie of Sussex now in the tenure, and occupac[i]on of one John Grenes widdow by Indenture. To have and to holde all the saide landes tennements and premisses above given and bequeathed unto the saide John Hall I Saye to the same John Hall his heires and assignes for ev[er] towards and for the p[er]formance of this my last Will after this this my said Will performed I give and bequeath the same unto the said John Hall to have enioye and to holde unto the saide John Hall his heires and assignes for ever. Item I give, and bequeath all the rest or residue of my landes, tennements goods, and debts moveable and not moveable, and by me not bequeathed after my debts paied my legacies performed I honestly buried, and my funerall charges discharged wholy and altogether to my saide kinsman John Hall his heires executors and assignes for ev[er], which John Hall my loving kinsman I make ordaine and constitute my whole, and sole executor of this my testamente and last Will to prove p[er]forme and fulfill the same according to the true effect and meaning therof. Item I ordaine appointe and and [sic] make Edwarde Darkenall thelder and Edward Darkenall the yonger his sonne and Rog[er] Focye my lovers and frends in xpt myne Overseers or Sup[er]visors of this my testament and Last Will, and I most humby and hartely desire them and every of them to see this my laste will duly and truly p[er]formed according to the greate trust, and confidence that I have alwayes put and yet doe putt in them. And I give and bequeath unto the saide Edward Darkenall thelder for his paines and travill to be taken in and aboute thexuct[i]on hereof my best gowne, And unto the saide Edwarde the yonger his Sonne for his paines to be taken in and aboute thexecuc[i]on hereof of golde or else.. Provided alwaies that myne Overseers ov[er] and besids theire Legacies shall have theire reasonable costs charges and expences borne, and that by myne executor, aboute thexecuc[i]on hereof. And furthermore I moste humbly desire and praye my especiall good and welbeloved master Mr John Carrell esquire that he wolde take so muche paines as to be aydinge and assistante, and also give his good and favorable councell unto my said Executor and Overseers when so ever they shall have neede of any suche councell aboute the performance of this my will. And I give and bequeath unto his mastershipp for his frendshipp aide and councell to be had and given fower Rialls of golde to be delivered unto hym ymmediatly after my decease./ In witnes whereof I have caused this my last will and testament to be made, and written the daye and yere first above written and Sealed and Signed the same with myne owne hande.
