32 Edward 3. 1359. Thomas son of Hugo Selk grants to John son of Hugo de Upton & to Richd de Grafton of Salop lands in Frankevile near Slachstrete and on the bank of the Severn called Selkys medewe.


A quitclaim (Blakeway p. 350):


On Sunday after the feast of St. Leonard Abbot, 34 Edward III. (1360), Thomas Selk, son of Hugh Selk, quit-claimed to John son of Hugh de Upton and Richard de Grafton, all his interest in 12 acres of land in the fields of Frankevile, six of which lie behind Thomas Colle’s close, and the other six lie near Slachstrete; which meadow lies near Severn bank, called Selkeys medewe; and the croft extends from the highway to Selkey’s medewe.

In the Fine Rolls (2 Richard II, 1379), “Richard de Grafton” is one of those given a commission as an assessor for Shrewsbury, and in 1380 a commission is given to “Richard Grafton.”

Date: Two weeks from St Michael, 10 Richard [II] [13 October 1386]. And afterwards three weeks from Easter, 11 Richard [II] [19 April 1388].

Parties: Thomas son of Thomas Knyght' of [....], querent, and William Polliley and Agnes, his wife, and Richard Grafton' of Salop' and Cecily, his wife, deforciants.

Property: [1 messua]ge and a moiety of 1 virgate of land in Grafton'.

Action: Plea of covenant.

Agreement: William, Agnes, Richard and Cecily have acknowledged the tenements to be the right of Thomas, [of which] Thomas has two parts of their gift, to hold [to] Thomas and his heirs, of the chief lords for ever. William, Agnes, Richard and Cecily have granted for themselves and the heirs of Agnes and Cecily that the third part of the tenements - which Alice, who was the wife of Richard Freman of Grafton' held in dower of the inheritance of Agnes and Cecily in the aforesaid vill on the day the agreement was made, and which after the decease of Alice ought to revert to William, Agnes, Richard and Cecily and the heirs of Agnes and Cecily - after the decease of Alice shall remain to Thomas and his heirs, to hold together with the two parts, of the chief lords for ever.

For this: Thomas has given them 10 marks of silver.
