Commentary

It is unclear who Anne’s parents were. There was a couple, John Padbury, miller, and Elizabeth Newman, having children in Fenny Compton in the early 1700s. Two of John’s brothers, Thomas and Richard, were also apparently living in Fenny Compton in 1698. It is possible that John and Elizabeth also had a child baptized and buried in Chacombe, Northamptonshire, in 1712.

Burials are recorded in Farnborough of Elizabeth, wife of John Padbury, in 1741, and of John Padbury in 1759.

It is tempting to assume that Anne was a daughter of John Padbury and Elizabeth Newman, but John and Elizabeth were married in 1700 and had these children baptized in Fenny Compton:

Mary (1701)

Elizabeth (1704) [Name obscured in the digital image, but given by Merritt. However, "Mary" is given by FreeReg.]

Thomas (1706)

a son (1708).

There is no Anne recorded among their children.

It still seems likely that they were somehow related.

The baptism of a daughter [name left blank in the register] of Christopher Padbury is recorded in Chacombe, Northamptonshire, in 1696. I have found no other records of this Christopher.
