Commentary

Geoffrey Stuttard suggests that Richard’s parents were Thomas Stuttard and Martha, a couple probably married in 1702/3 in Burnley and that probably had three children baptized in Burnley in the early 1700s (Mary 1703, abode Pendle; Susan 1704/5, abode Pendle; Elizabeth 1707, abode Newlaund), and a son, Thomas, baptized in Newchurch-in-Pendle in 1709 and buried there in 1722. (Martha, the wife of Thomas Stuttard, was buried in Newchurch-in-Pendle in 1742/3.) The suggestion is reasonable, but so far no documentation has turned up.
