This date is given by Bridgeman (p. 233, p. 249), and in Brut y Tywysogion under the year 1275 (Williams pp. 362-363 -- the English translation calls the year, in error, 1255). Pryce (p. 205) gives 18 July 1275.


Date of Burial: 1275.

Place of Burial: Strata Florida.

The burial is given in Brut y Tywysogion under the year 1275 (Williams pp. 362-363 -- the English translation calls the year, in error, 1255): “In that year, on the fifteenth day of August, Owain, son of Maredudd, son of Owain, son of Gruffudd, son of the lord Rhys, died, and was buried at Strata Florida, in the chapter house of the monks, near his father.”

Mother: a daughter of Thomas ap Rhodri.

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Rhys ap Tewdwr 6). Bridgeman (p. 249) gives “Elena, daughter of Maelgon Vychan ap Maelgon ap Res.”


Spouse: Angharad ferch Owain.

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Rhys ap Tewdwr 7, Trahaearn ap Caradog 6), and given by Bridgeman (p. 233, p. 249), and by the Welsh Assize Roll, 1277-1284 (p. 243). It is recorded in a grant in free marriage (Pryce no. 71). Smith (1982) discusses the dower arrangements.


Spouse: Gwladus ferch Owain.

This relationship is given by Bartrum (Rhys ap Tewdwr 7).
