Relationships
Father: Thurstan Banastre.
The date is given by Ormerod (2:574), by the Lancashire VCH (1:371), and by Farrer (p. 99)
Mother: Cecily.
This relationship is given by Ormerod (2:574) and by the Lancashire VCH (1:371) who state that Cecily married secondly Richard de Monhaut.
(probable) Spouse: Clemence, daughter of Philip de Orreby.
Her name is known to be Clemence/Clemency/Clementia, but her relationship to Philip de Orreby is conjectural. This relationship is given by Ormerod (2:574). Farrer (p. 99) states that in 1219 Philip de Orreby purchased the wardship and marriage of Robert son and heir of Thurstan Banastre for 500 marks. Langton (p. 21) notes that although there is no direct evidence that Philip had a daughter, he would be unlikely to have paid 500 marks unless he intended to marry a daughter of his to Robert. Langton also gives evidence from seals of arms that seems to support this relationship. The Lancashire VCH (1:571) states that Philip paid only 50 marks. A fine of 3 Henry III (no. 334) states that "Phillip of Orby, justice of Chester, has made fine with the king by 50 m. for having the custody and marriage of Robert, son and heir of Thurstan Banaster..."
Children:
John (died before the end of February, 1242).
Sir Robert Banastre (about 1241 - 1291) married Alesia, daughter of Robert de Grendon.
