The date is given by Varzos (p. 38), who is followed by the PmbZO. He was definitely dead by 1026 (PBW, citing Bryennios 75:9-13).

Relationships

Father: unknown.

Varzos (p. 37) gives his name as Isaakios Komnenos, since it was a Greek custom to name the eldest son after the father’s father and Manuel’s eldest son was named Isaakios.

Mother: unknown.

Varzos (p. 37) suggests that she was from the Erotikos family, and “probably” a sister of the general Theophilos Erotikos. But there have been other explanations for the name Erotikos being attached to Manuel. The PmbZO suggests Manuel’s mother may have been a daughter of the Theophilos Erotikos who was eparch of Constantinople.

Spouse: unknown.

Varzos (p. 39 n) suggests that her name was Maria, based on the name given by Isaakios and Ioannes to their eldest daughters.

relationship unclear: Nikephoros Komnenos.

Varzos suggests that he was Manuel’s brother, which the PmbZO considers possible, but it has also been suggested that he was Manuel’s son by an earlier marriage.

Isaakios Komnenos (about 1007 - 1060 or 1061) married Catherine of Bulgaria. Isaakios became Emperor Isaakios I.

A girl (born about 1012) married Michael Dokeianos.

Ioannes Komnenos (about 1015 - 12 July 1067) married Anna Dalassena.
