There is a brass monument dated 1410 in the church at Langley Marish, Berkshire. The evidence below shows that Richard seems to have taken control of his lands before then. Wyatt suggests that the monument is John’s and that he had retired to a religious life sometime before his death.

Alice is recorded as John’s wife in fines from 1359 in Middlesex and from 1375 in Berkshire.

Richard Wyot (died 1431) married Alice. Richard was a member of parliament for Buckinghamshire (and once for Middlesex) several times between 1407 and 1426.

[Woodger (HoP) notes that property from the Stanwell John Wyot passed into Richard Wyot’s hands. In the inquisition post mortem of Brian Wyndesore taken at Stanwell in 1399 it is noted: (No place given.) Divers lands in the said county, held by Richard Wyot by the service of half a knight’s fee and 3s. 4d. every 24 weeks.]

Westminster, Buckinghamshire. 6 October 1368.

John Wyot of Wyradesbury, querent, and William de Langford’ and Edith, his wife, deforciants.

1 messuage and 5 acres of land in Horton’.

William and Edith have acknowledged the tenements to be the right of John, and have remised and quitclaimed them from themselves and the heirs of Edith to him and his heirs for ever.

John has given them 10 marks of silver.

Westminster, Buckinghamshire. 13 October 1371.

Richard Pope and Agnes, his wife, querents, and Thomas Wyot' and Joan, his wife, deforciants.

2 acres of land in Langele Mareys.

Thomas and Joan have acknowledged the land to be the right of Richard, and have remised and quitclaimed it from themselves and the heirs of Joan to Richard and Agnes and the heirs of Richard for ever.

Richard and Agnes have given them 20 shillings of silver.

William Forde, clerk, John Wyot and William, the vicar of the church of Werardesby, querents, by John Rous, put in the place of William Forde, and Thomas Wyot and Joan, his wife, deforciants.

1 messuage, 50 acres of land, 8 acres of meadow and 2 acres of wood in Horton' and Langele Mareys.

Thomas and Joan have acknowledged the tenements to be the right of William the vicar, as those which the same William, William Forde and John have of their gift, and have remised and quitclaimed them from themselves and the heirs of Joan to William, John and William and the heirs of William the vicar for ever.

William, John and William have given them 100 marks of silver.

Thomas Peyuere, John Roulond', Richard Freman, chaplain, and William Belyeter, querents, and John Wake and Alice, his wife, deforciants.

3 messuages and 8 acres of land in Bukyngham and Bourton'.

John Wake and Alice have acknowledged the tenements to be the right of Thomas, and have granted for themselves and the heirs of Alice that 1 messuage - which John Wyot', millward, and Alice, his wife, and Joan, daughter of the same John and Alice, held for their lives - and that [1] messuage - which Thomas Cheyne and Katherine, his wife, and Joan, daughter of the same Thomas and Katherine, held for their lives - and that 1 messuage - which Philip Coteler and Joan, his wife, held for their lives - and that 4 acres of land - which Roger Stokker held for life - and that 2 acres of land - which Thomas Coueley held for life - and also that 2 acres of land - which William Palmer held for life - of the inheritance of Alice, the wife of John Wake, in the aforesaid vills on the day the agreement was made, and which after the decease of John Wyot' and Alice, his wife, and Joan, Thomas Cheyne and Katherine and Joan, Philip and Joan, Roger, Thomas Coueley and William Palmer ought to revert to John Wake and Alice, his wife, and the heirs of Alice - after the decease of [the same persons] shall remain to Thomas Peyuere, John Roulond', Richard and William Belyeter and the heirs of Thomas, to hold of the chief lords for ever.

Thomas, John Roulond', Richard and William Belyeter have given them 20 marks of silver.


In the Buckinghamshire Poll Tax Records of 1377-9, John Wyot and Thomas Wyot are listed as Probi Homines for Langley/Wraysbury.
