Commentary

The identification of the daughter of Richard Swancott and Ann Mills with the Bridget Swancott who married Andrew Brees is based on her probable age at marriage and the agreement of the names of her first daughter and second son with the names of the parents of Bridget: a traditional pattern. The only possible alternative I have come across is the illegitimate daughter of John Swancott and Mary Beversley, baptized in 1668, which would make her about 15 at the time of the 1683 marriage. This Bridget is not mentioned in the 1700 will of Mary’s father, Roger Beversley, although Mary’s other (legitimate) children are. But she is mentioned in the 1684 will of Roger's sister Ann, as "Bridgett Swancott" and thus presumably unmarried at that time.
