John’s will


In the name of god Amen; I John Baker alias Arnold of Horley in the Countye of Oxon yeoman, though weake in body, yet thankes bee to god of p[er]fect memory doe make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following; First I give and bequeath my soule into the hands of allmighty god, and my body to bee buryed in the churchyarde of Horley; Item I give to my sonnes John Baker alias Arnold and Nathaniel Baker alias Arnold and to their heyres for ever two tenements or cottages with thappurtenances lying in Horley, after eyther of them shall attaine or accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares; and not before, if Margery my now wife shall so long live; Item I give to William Fines lord Say and Seale and to his heyres for ever one cottage in Polehampton with thappurtenances therunto belonging, and now in the tenure of John Manson, to be sold by the sayde William Fines; and my will is that the sayde William Fines wold be pleased to sell the same cottage and within one twelthmoneth after make an equall division of all that money which hee shall take for the same [two words I can’t read] betwixt my sayde sonnes John Baker alias Arnold and Nathaniell Baker alias Arnold And all the rest of my goods moveable and unmoveable, my debts being payde and funerall discharged I give unto Margery my now wife whom I make sole executrix of this my last will and testament, all other former wills being revoked, and I ordeine John Clarson of Horley Cleric and John Roberts of Brongton overseers of this my will,./. moreover my will is that my overseers, shall ioyntly decide and deformmie[?] all such differences or suites as shall or may arise in regard of this my will either betwixt my wife and my sonnes; or betwixt my sayde sonnes; Sealed and delivered the three & twentieth day of June 1629 in the presence of
