Commentary
Sarah’s parentage:
A few wills indicate Sarah’s parentage.
The 1671 will of Henry Payton of Dudley names his son John Payton and his son-in-law Richard Bach, and two codicils name his daughter Sarah Bach.
The eldest surviving son of Henry’s son John Payton, named Henry, was baptized 1671 in Dudley.
The 1693 will of Richard Bach of Chadwich names his wife Sarah, his brother-in-law John Payton, and John Payton’s heir Henry Payton.
The above information allows us to identify Sarah’s baptism record at St Edmund’s, Dudley, 20 August 1643, which names her parents as Henry and Ann Payton.
Henry Willets married Ann Willets in Dudley in 1636. Their eldest child, the John Payton noted above, was baptized there in 1638. The will of Richard Willets of Rowley Regis, made in 1657 and proved in 1661, makes his son-in-law Henry Payton an executor. The 1671 will of Ann’s father Henry Payton names his brother-in-law Richard Willets.
The evidence for Sarah’s parentage is satisfactory.
