Relationships

(supposed) Father: Ealhmund.

Edwards, giving what seems to be the current majority opinion among scholars, states that Ealhmund may have been Ecgberht’s father, but his origins were probably Kentish rather than West Saxon, as given in later genealogies. He may have been the Ealhmund who was ruling in Kent in 784.

Mother: unknown.

Spouse: uncertain.

Baldwin notes that a late source makes Ecgberht’s wife Rædburh, a sister of the king of the Franks.

Children:

Æthelwulf (died 858), king of the West Saxons. Married (1) Osburh. Married (2) Judith, daughter of Charles the Bald.
