Will of John Maw of Spaunton:


In the Name of God Amen I John Maw of Spanton in the County of York yeom. being in health and sound in mind and memory for which I bless God do mak my last will in manner following (That is to say) first of all I bequeath my soul unto the hands of almighty God in hopes of a Joyfull resur[r]ection through the merits of my redeemer and my Body to be Buried in the Church Yard of Lastingham at the discretion of my Exect here after named and what worldly Goods God has been pleased to bless me with I dispose of in manner following first I Give unto my Son John Maw of Spanton whom I make Sole Exec.t of this my last will and Testament, one whole half of the Locton Lands, after the decease of Esther Venice who at present enjoys it. I also will that the other half of the Locton Lands be Equally divided between my two daughters Elizabeth and Mary, Elizabeth paying to my Grand Daughter Grace Skelton forty shilllings when she said Elizabeth gets her Legacy, likewise I will that my Exec.t within one whole year after my decease give give [sic] unto my said daughter Elizabeth one Cow, or whefer[?], also I will that my said Exec.t pay unto my daughter Mary within one whole year after my decease the sum of five pounds, also I will that my said Exect within one whole year after my decease give to my Grandchildren Each one an Ewe and a Lamb John Maws mark and Seal. Signed Sealed published and declared as my last will and Testament this 19th day of January 1746 - in the sight and presence of Eliz: Carter Betty Carter Jos. Carter past the seal 8 June 1749
