Relationships

Father: John de Hulton of Farnworth

Mother: Alice de Radcliffe.

It is probable that these were William's parents, although evidence given a footnoote (fn 27) in the VCH suggests that they may in fact have been Robert de Worsley and Ellen. Ellen was somehow next of kin to the William that was the son of John de Hulton.

Spouse: unknown.

Children:

(Complete source citations for facts about the children on this page are currently outside of the scope of this project.)

John Hulton (born 1 August 1371 - died 28 December 1422) married Elizabeth de Atherton

Evidence

from the VCH:

It is possible that there is some error as to the William de Hulton to whom this lease [of Mulwardscroft in Manchester in 1337] was granted. William son of John de Hulton in 1353 had a dispute with William son of Robert de Worsley, who had married Ellen, next of kin to the plaintiff, concerning Harpurhey and lands in Hulton and elsewhere; it appeared that Alice, William de Hulton's mother, was a bastard, and that William had been left a minor.

Towneley’s abstract of William’s inquisition post mortem:

Inquisitio capta apud Bolton die Mercurii prox: post festum Inventionis S’te crucis anno 16 R. 2 Juratores dicunt quod Willi’mus de Hulton de Farneworth defunct: obiit die Sabati in festo S’ti Luce evangeliste annot 16 R.2 Et dicunt quod Johannes filius et heres ipsius Willi’mi defunct: fuit plene etatis videlicet ad etatem viginti et unius annorum in festo S’ti Petri ad vincula anno supradicto et maritatus est Elizabethe filie Willi’mi de Atherton militis in vita predicti Willi’mi patris sui et tennuit nullas terras in comitatu Lancr in feodo.
