I saw on the news that the Geiko commercial for "Hump Day" was getting so distracting in some schools that administrators have had to ask students to "tone it down." I love that commercial, mostly for the camel's voice, but also because it represents the pinnacle of the week.
In Literature 9 we worked on evaluating evidence to support a claim. In the commencement speech "Put Down Your Backpack," Anna Quindlen gives a persuasive look at the difficulty of being perfect. She reminds her audience that we're each an individual, created for the time in which we live, and we need to stop being a carbon copy of others, and to just be ourselves. The message is needed so much today during the times where we worship conformity. The students made a motivational poster using the quotes from her essay. We looked at each one in the form of an art show, and then discussed how they supported her claim.
In English 10 it was literary program presentations again. We had some really good presentations. We heard a few on Halloween, Christmas, poverty in Haiti, dreams, and self-confidence. I am looking forward to five more presentations tomorrow.
In American Government we discussed the mistakes that were made under the Articles of Confederation. Mistakes are a part of life, and if we learn from them, it can make us better people - and a better nation. I just hope our representatives can learn from the mistakes of the budget crisis so our country never goes through this chaos again. We took a quiz over the Articles of Confederation and English legacies. We're moving on to our discussion of the Constitutional Convention. I may be a nerd, but I love teaching the Constitutional Convention.
Enjoy your H-U-M-P DAY! See you tomorrow.
