I knew today was going to be crazy, and boy was it ever. So many things going on at once that I'm not sure which way to look.
In Literature 9 we compared Jon Dorenbos, a Philadelphia Eagle who made it to America's Got Talent finals, with Mr. Shimada, the subject of the biography read. We discovered that they were respected, successful, had perseverance, and were optimistic. Then we reviewed the vocabulary for this biography. We will be completing the vocabulary lesson for the last two pieces of literature, so be sure that you have those notes completed. Finally, I distributed a cause and effect worksheet. We discussed how cause and effect is the analysis of the relationship of events. For example, Mr. Shimada realized that he couldn't be a day laborer like his American counterparts, and that resulted in him opening his own dressmaking shop. Have the front side of this cause/effect worksheet done for tomorrow.
In English 10, each class had three speakers present their career choices. It sets the tone when the presentations are so strong. While I'm working on the evaluations, the audience is first to discuss and fill in the career chart. Also at the tables are the rules related to subject/verb agreement. Looking at those rules, everyone is then supposed to complete Exercise 4 of the worksheet already distributed. Tomorrow my goal is to get through 5-6 speakers.
In American Government, we started with fifteen minutes discussing current events. We then held up our Separation of Powers coloring page to compare it with the key. There were a few problems. We started to discuss how each branch has its own responsibilities, and sometimes those responsibilities require it to "watch over" another branch. That is, by definition, the checks and balance system. For Wednesday, there is a WebQuest over the Checks and Balance system.
Have a great day!
