Today flew by. I'm sitting here eighth hour hardly believing the day is over already. That's a sure sign that I'm lovin' what I do. Most people claim the days just drag, but for me it's always the opposite.
In Literature 9 we discussed the importance of minor characters and how Harper Lee uses various writing strategies to make them seem important. Then we worked in our pods on our map assignment. It was so surprising to see that the real street Harper Lee lived on looks so close to the store. I was also impressed with the logic used - fire hydrant in front of Miss Stephanie's house makes us think she's on the corner. Brilliant. We then reviewed the stories and talked about the use of certain words in this story that most would find offensive.
In English 10 we reviewed infinitives. Deciding how an infinitive is used just doesn't seem to be a priority or a necessity. We will finish up verbals next week and then move onto misplaced phrases. We finished reading Act I and finally Romeo and Juliet meet. We didn't get a lot of opportunity to dissect their conversation, but we did laugh at the speed in which these two kissed. We will finish our discussion tomorrow with our quiz on Friday.
In American Government we played a little Kahoot to review for our quiz (Chapter 5:2-3). While playing we discussed things like filibuster and how the cloture stops it. We also defined and discussed terms like constituents, germane, and unanimous consent. We will be moving on to "how a bill becomes a law" and that essentially will be the next unit. We will generically determine the process, then apply it to a famous law the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and then create bills ourselves and try to get them passed. With a flipped classroom, I can't believe how much more time I have! I love it.
In Law we finished our discussion of a criminal procedure. We didn't get to a verdict or sentencing, but we finish with our discussion of the process. We then moved onto our Criminal Defenses packet. We also shared our news articles on crime. I shared an article about a lab in Massachusetts that now has over 20,000 drug convictions thrown out because of a lab technician. Forensic science has such an impact on our judicial process that it's scary what can be thrown out of court.
Have a great Wednesday everyone!
