It seemed like everyone was running around a little frantic today. I thought at first it was just me, but the more I encountered other teachers or students, it seems like we're all a little frazzled. In four of my six classes we also created a new seating chart.
In Literature 9 we reviewed (very quickly) the study guide. The rest of the class period was spent taking our second short story unit test. (That's a lot of adjectives in a row!). We will finish the skills portion tomorrow and then begin work on studying our for our unit vocabulary test.
In English 10 I presented a sample tour speech. I never know whether to do this or not because it's probably a little intimidating. After my sample was done, I answered questions - either about Arlington National Cemetery or the assignment. Then I showed where to upload the power point and the bibliography (Moodle). This must be done by tomorrow. The rest of the class period was individual work time on either the notecards, the outline, or rehearsal.
In American Literature we looked at the anaphora found in the essay "Just for Today". We also highlighted parallelism and personification. Then I distributed the Pulitzer Prize essay by Leonard Pitts written the day after 9/11. Then using a coloring activity the groups are working on highlighting and coloring to analyze the essay for rhetorical devices. They are wonderful guinea pigs, so I'm learning what works and what doesn't.
Tonight will be another long day for many of you - basketball games, pep band, and even some speech. Remember to get the necessary rest and proper food (not just pizza or junk food). It makes all the difference in the world.
