I think one of the worst days to teach is the day after a break. No one really wants to be back, and it takes forever to get into the swing of things. Either way, I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.
In Literature 9 we began working on our second characterization workshop. We discussed how an author will sometimes leave the positivity or negativity of a character up to us the reader. We then finished up our vocabulary for "Sweet Potato Pie". Tomorrow, we're going to work on our vocabulary lesson, so be sure that all your vocabulary notes are done.
In English 10 we worked on the fourth parallelism exercise. We will be finishing up our work with parallelism sometime this week. We then moved onto a discussion about conclusions. Conclusions are often overlooked but are vital to the success of a speech. I shared different ways you can end your speech, but the format is essentially the same - signpost, summarization, connection, and a zinger. We also talked about the perimeters for the notecards. You get three notecards - an introduction notecard with 25 words, a body notecard with 40 words, and a conclusion notecard with 15 words. Tomorrow you need to have your outline completed along with a worksheet on commas. We will also rehearse tomorrow for presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In American Government, we discussed an upcoming FCC vote on net neutrality. This will also be our lead article for current events. We then moved on to discuss this country's first constitution - the Articles of Confederation. I shared its weakness, its features, and its author. For Wednesday, read the handout on the Articles and complete the accompanying worksheet.
Today the temperature is almost 65 degrees - hard to believe for the end of November. Hopefully, you all will get the opportunity to enjoy it a little. See you tomorrow.
